Today's review is on Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer
Bloodrose is the third and final installment in Cremer's Nightshade
series, and thought it had a few surprises, in my opinion, it brought
what was a delightful series way down.
At the end of Wolfsbane, Calla had a huge weight on her shoulders.
Not only was she still coming to terms with the lies of the Keepers, and
the pain she felt for leaving her family, she was faced with helping
her little brother Ansel; who had his wolf striped from him, and quite
possibly may have lost her first love; Ren forever.
She can't loose Ren however, her heart won't let her. So she goes
back to the home that they would have shared with their pack; had she
not left the night of their bonding to save Shane, finding him there.
And though she is in love with Shane, her heart still holds a place for
him. When he agrees to return with her to the Academy with the other
Searchers however, there is nothing but anger between him and the Scion,
and sexual tension between him and Calla. Everything will have to wait
though. The war is upon them, and until it's done, Calla will not
choose a mate, so the drama continues.
The three of them along with the other searchers continue on their
quest to find the pieces to the two swords that Shane will need to
defeat his "uncle" and close The Rift. Along the way they battle Bears,
Bats, and Firewolves, and lose a few good friends as well. It's at the
end though where things really get your emotions going as lives we
wanted to spare were not, and lives are restored exactly where we did.
New romances were even developed. With that said however, I found the
actual ending a bit flat.
It takes a good writer to know when there series has run its course.
Perhaps Ms. Cremer saw that for her beloved Nightshade. What started
out with a bang in the first book, seems to have gone out with a whimper
with its last, or perhaps a little sad howl.

Book Review: The Space Between
Today's review is on The Space Between by Brenna Yovanoff
The Space Between is a touching and unique story of loss, love, and finding who you really are. At times I found myself angry, and sometimes so sad that my sight became blurry with unshakeable tears.
Daphne is the daughter of the first of the Fallen; Lucifer, and Lilith; Adams wife before Eve. This makes Daphne half-demon and half-angel. Living in Pandemonium, she is not only bored, but lonely and feeling unloved. She never sees Lucifer, and her mother never shown any sign of affection towards her. The only one that show's her any semblance of love is her half-brother Obie.
Obie; like Daphne, is different from Lilith's other children. Because he is the son Adam and not Lucifer, his heart is human. He spends a large portion of his time on Earth "working" in a hospital. His job is to care for "The Lost Ones." The nephilim. The children of Angels and humans. It is through his job that he finds Truman. A boy in desperate need of being saved.
Obie has gone missing after leaving Pandemonium to live with the human woman that he loves, and Daphne somehow feels that she is responsible. Because of this, she decides to search for him on Earth. There is great danger however, in the form of Azrael; the Angel of Death, and Dark Dreadful; the horrible creature that kills demons and drinks their blood.
The only person who can help Daphne is the last person that saw Obie alive. Truman. But Truman is on the road to self destruction, unable to continue on with his life after the death of his mother.
Through their journey to save Obie, Truman and Daphne find redemption and love, along with a baby. How? Read the book to find out.
The Space between is filled with exceptional creativity. The sweetness and sensitivity of the love that grows between Daphne and Truman was a delight to read.
A fantastic book that just needs a bit more editing to correct the mistakes that are still within it.

Book Review: Ardeur
Today's review is on Ardeur by Danielle Gavan
Ardeur Lisle should have died the day she was born, but she did not. Through the help of an Angel she survived, only to live a life full pain, torture, and loneliness.
Everyone has imaginary friends as a child, but Ardeur's were not imaginary. Her friends were ghosts. It was because of this strange ability that she was ridiculed in school by just about everyone except Brody Callaghan, the boy with the beautiful dimples and the roguishly handsome smile.
Her parents, who only provided the basics, pulled her out of school eventually and began teaching her magic spells. They then sold her and never looked back. Those that purchased Ardeur summoned a demon, and that demon made himself at home within her.
Forced to commit horrible acts, Ardeur begins to plan her escape. Once she does, she is forced to live on the run until she is hit by an SUV. Fortunately, the boy who pledged that he would always protect her had finally found her. His love for her never faltering.
He's not the only one who's in love with Ardeur however. It seems that the very Angel that saved her life as an infant is in love with her also. But when she doesn't fall in love with him all hell breaks loose.
After nineteen years of sorrow, Ardeur is on the brink of happiness with a man who loves her and whom she loves back. Now if they can only survive the wrath of Death.
Ardeur was a very good book, though there were quite a bit of mistakes. The story line was quite unique and kept me engaged throughout it's pages. I am looking forward to the next installment so that I may see Ms. Gavan grow as a writer.

Book Review: A Dry Creek Bed
Today's review is on A Dry Creek Bed by Avery Flynn
What happens to the psychological development of an eight-year-old who is left hanging upside down in a car wreck knowing that her father has been thrown out of the windshield, and watches her mother die? She develops a type of Attachment Disorder. She becomes unable to form meaningful relationships for fear of being hurt and left alone again. Walls are formed around her heart. This is exactly what happens to Beth Martinez.
Years later we find Beth sitting alone in a local Mexican restaurant. Quietly sobbing, she is surprised when her BFF's big brother Hank Layton; her childhood crush, stops by her table to join her. Sparks almost instantly fly between the two and the sexual tension begins.
Both Beth and Hank begin a game of cat and mouse where Beth is the mouse and Hank the ever persistent cat. He realizes after just one small kiss that she is the woman for him, and he will do everything he can to make her his. But there is also danger afoot. Someone is threatening Beth, and these threats lead to even bigger dangers.
While at a conference in Las Vegas, Beth is drugged and Hank comes to her rescue like a Knight in Shinning Armor. While heading back to her hotel, Hank realizes that they are being followed by two thugs. Barely escaping, Hank brings Beth back to his hotel where things begin to get out of hand. With the drug in her system, the walls around Beth's heart begin to crumble.
It all comes to a head when Beth gets shot. Hank can no longer deny his love for her. He will stop at nothing to protect her, even by sacrificing his life if need be.
I just loved the first book in Flynn's Dry Creek series and was looking forward to this second installment. Did I like this one as much as the first? No, but it is a VERY close second. I'm still looking forward to the next book where I hope there is a little more romance, a little more suspense, and a little more sex.

Book Review: Up A Dry Creek
Today's review is on Up A Dry Creek by Avery Flynn
I was able to read Up A Dry Creek in just one day. filled with murder, mystery, romance, and a plethora of twists and turn, I was unable to put it down for any length of time.
Claire Layton has always wanted to be a chef since she was a little girl, but when her inability to cook threatened that dream she decided to go to business school and become a restaurant owner instead. Who knew that one day at work could turn her world upside down.
Offering up the Full-Moon Special at Harvest Bistro, Claire notices a young, female patron texting on her phone. Nothing to unusual about that, until she takes the trash out to the dumpster at the end of the night. There she spots the same young, female with blood in her hair and obviously dead. Shortly after she is contacted by the killer. He wants the phone and flash drive the dead girl should have had on her but didn't. Now if she doesn't find it and give it to him, he will come after her and her family.
Jake Warrick is a private investigator who has been hired by the victim's father to also find the killer, the phone and flash drive. Intent to just do his job, he is surprised at the amount of attraction he feels towards Claire. And as the dangers to her increase so does his feelings.
The action is almost never ending as the two struggle to stay one step ahead of the bad guys and the sexual tension is so thick you want to take a big bite out of it. Even with the less than perfect editing.
Hot, Heavy, and Exciting, Up A Dry Creek is a welcome addition to anyone's library.

Book Review: In Search of Lucy
Today's review is on In Search of Lucy by Lia Fairchild
Just looking at the cover of this book I thought I would be in for a nice mystery, but like they say, "never judge a book by it's cover". Within the first few chapters I found myself attached to Lucy and the other characters.
After an extremely difficult young life where she had to deal with her alcoholic mother, the death of her step-father, and taking care of her little sister, Lucy has built up a huge protective wall around her. Not wanting to let anyone in, she has been alone for far to long and is thinking about just ending it all. Instead, she finds herself on an emotional and physical journey that will forever change her life.
Lucy's little sister needs a kidney transplant and out of everyone who is tested, only Lucy is a match. Even though she hasn't seen or even talked to Katie in years, there is still nothing Lucy wouldn't do to help her. Except fly. Luckily Benny; one of her neighbors, volunteers to drive her to her sisters, and Amy volunteers to be a support for her.
This surprises Lucy because she never really considered the two as real friends. And after just one botched date, she never even thought that someone like Kyle could ever really be interested in her.
All that changes however as Lucy finds that not only is life not that bad, but that she is truly worthy of being loved by others and ultimately loved by herself, and by the end of the story she is finally ready to LIVE.
Even though the copy I received was reedited, there were still a handful of mistakes. Still, I found In Search of Lucy a really good read. The story is amazingly believable and may even bring a tear to your eyes. I personally would have liked to have had the epilogue happen further down the road to see Lucy possibly married and having met her biological father, but that is just my opinion.

Book Review: A Hint of Murder: The Anthology
Today's review is on A Hint of Murder: The Anthology by Lia Fairchild
This Anthology consists of three delightful, who done it, mysteries. Each one keeping you engaged and wondering who the culprit really is. Just when you think you know the answer, your wrong!
The first in the series is The Writer
Alicia Fairfield lives a lonely life. The only people she has are her son; who is away at a mental institution, and her agent Edward. Even with this solitary life, she has become quite famous due to her fabulous murder mystery books. Now however it seems that someone is taking the books a little to seriously, and bodies begin turning up. At each crime, a page from one of Alicia's novels is found with the victim.
Feeling somehow responsible, Alicia tries to cope as best as she can with a little help from her pills and Edward. With so many suspects, it's difficult for Detective John Lewis and his partner to nail down the perp. until the very end.
The second in the series is The Doctor
Dr. Russell Morgan is an exceptionally handsome man and an excellent doctor, and he knows it. Even though he does come off a bit arrogant, he really doesn't mean harm to anyone and even goes the extra mile to get the ultimate slacker of a nurse, Nicole to work harder. When the body of one of his patients is found dead though all eyes turn to him as the possible killer. After all, he was suspected of "playing God" with another patients life in the past. He's not the only suspect however, and as other bodies turn up dead as well, the suspect list only grows. Detective John Lewis and his partner have their work cut out for them. Again the reader is surprised as to who the real killer is.
The final story in the series is The Bouncer
Bobby Crane is standing behind the curtain waiting to perform for the first time. He has waited so long for this chance to show that he actually has some singing talent. Just as he is being announced however two police officers arrive. There's been a murder in town and the police know he was at the vic's house that morning.
Allen Schaffer was found dead in his home. The strangest part of that is not how he was found, but the state of the house itself. It is completely white. White walls, white furniture, white rug. The only color, the red of his blood on the carpet. But did Bobbie do it? You'll have to read it to find out. Any more info would spoil the surprise!
Nicely written with minimal mistakes in editing; which is a pet peeve of mine and more often than not decreases my rating, each story is bound to keep anyone guessing. Now to long and not to short, the stories will entertain without keeping you up all hours of the night wondering who done it.

Book Review: We Shall Rise
Today's review is on We Shall Rise, the second book in J E Hopkins' Misfits of the Lore series.
Because of the number of requests I receive each month from authors and the wonderful choices the publishing companies send me, it is often difficult to get everyone on my growing list of books to read. It was the brief description of We Shall Rise that I received that made me choose this book even though I had not read the first in the series. As luck would have it, this second installment is a great stand alone book!
Apparent from the flash back moments, vampire Kaden Gaspard has lived a long and painful life; most of which was described in more detail in book one. In short, his father was quite abusive. He not only beat him, he even locked him up in the dungeon of their home. When he couldn't "break" his son that way he resorted to abusing his wife because Kaden loved her so very much.
Even though his father is now dead; at Kaden's hand, the pain has never really left him. He is still taunted by those memories, still pained by his inability to "save" his mother, and his own belief that he will be just like his father.
In all of his years he felt that he was destined to destroy all that he loved and all who loved him. After all, he was the child that kept his mother Olivia from her true mate. It was he that destroyed his relationship with his brother by taking the love of his life away from him and making her his own. It was also he who caused Helena to go mad and kill his beloved friend Maddie. But now he has found his own true mate. The stunningly, beautiful Reysa. A half-vampire who loves him deeply.
Reysa has made her home in Las Vegas in a huge home with her best friend Christian, their "adopted" daughter Tatiana and a host of other misfits. Those supernaturals who have been abandoned, or turned away by their respective clans. Dealing with Kaden's insecurities may just be to much for her though when all the pure bloods of the world are in danger.
The half-breeds are tired of being oppressed and are beginning to rise up against the pure bloods. Some even taking to kidnapping their own fellow half-breeds to experiment on them in their effort to find something that will kill the pure bloods. It's up to Kayden, Reysa and her family of misfits to step in and make sure this war doesn't happen. Will their love for each other survive though?
We Shall Rise was a really good book that should have gotten a four star review, however, there were just to many mistakes throughout the piece. Him's where it should have been her's, by when it should have been my, even using the wrong characters name once. For those reasons I have to take away one star.

Reysa has made her home in Las Vegas in a huge home with her best friend Christian, their "adopted" daughter Tatiana and a host of other misfits. Those supernaturals who have been abandoned, or turned away by their respective clans. Dealing with Kaden's insecurities may just be to much for her though when all the pure bloods of the world are in danger.
The half-breeds are tired of being oppressed and are beginning to rise up against the pure bloods. Some even taking to kidnapping their own fellow half-breeds to experiment on them in their effort to find something that will kill the pure bloods. It's up to Kayden, Reysa and her family of misfits to step in and make sure this war doesn't happen. Will their love for each other survive though?
We Shall Rise was a really good book that should have gotten a four star review, however, there were just to many mistakes throughout the piece. Him's where it should have been her's, by when it should have been my, even using the wrong characters name once. For those reasons I have to take away one star.

Book Review: The Curse of Gramdon
Today's review is on The Curse of Gremdon by Ciara Knight
This is the first book that I have read by Knight, and I must say that I am hooked. I was pulled into the magical world she has created from the very first chapter. At first I thought that this would be one of those stories that would bring me to tears, but the glistening in my eyes was for a very happy ending.
True love is never easy to find, and once you find it you never want to let it go. What if however it is forbidden for you? What if you could never consummate the passion of your love? This is the world in which Arianna lives.
Because Arianna is a warrior she is forbidden to have sex. It is only the male warriors who can, and they are the ones that are given "gifts" in the form of willing women, from the Elders. The Elders whom control the castle with their laws and their magic.
Tardon is also a warrior, an Elite warrior as a matter of fact. He is given just about everything and anything he could ever desire, even many women. One day however, after a practice match in the Pit with Arianna, he finds that he cannot get her off of his mind. Even when given a woman to satisfy him for the evening, he sees Arianna's face and not the other woman's.
When Arianna and Tardon are caught together, they both face certain death. The only way to save themselves is to travel to the Outer Realm to obtain the serum from the Tree of Life. There are many dangers to face in the Outer Realm however. Strange creatures for one, and the vile Cursed.
Things are never quite what they seem though. Arianna and Tardon come to realize the truth of what is really going on, and who the real Cursed are.
The Curse is a unique fairy tale that I think anyone would enjoy. I am hopeful for a second installment. :)

Today's review is on Witch Way Bends, Book 1 of the Bend-Bite-Shift Trilogy by Olivia Hardin.
This book grabs you from the very beginning with our heroine Devan Stowe contemplating weather or not to join in on the "mission". The mission to thwart her fathers business of selling children. To succeed she has teamed up with Kent Crosby and his men.
Unknown to her, Kent and his people are not what they seem. They are a mixed team of supernaturals. Langston is a Shaman, and the only person in the group that Kent trusts completely. He himself is a Witch with the ability to alter time. Nicky is a Dhampir, and she finds out that she is a mix of Fae and Witch.
While dealing with this new knowledge of the supernatural community, she also learns that her father wasn't selling children for sex, he was selling the children because they were Witches. And those buying the children? Well they are Vampires that gain power when feeding form them. Now the "Org" knows what she is, and one vamp in particular wants her all to himself.
With the help of her BFF Jill from college; who is now a vamp herself, and the teachings of her mentor Langston, she will learn some well needed fighting skills. And with the love of her soul mate Kent, she finds the strength and confidence she needs for the biggest battle of her life.
The series is off to a good start. Though I did find a few errors, all in all I enjoyed reading Witch Way Bends. Now I have another series to add to my ever growing list of books to read, and if you know me, you know that that is something in and of itself.

Book Review: The Mask
Today's review is on The Mask by Ayna Winters
Every woman I know has some sort of a love/hate relationship with certain sweet foods, myself included. I love to eat all of it, but I hate the inevitable weight gain that comes along with it. And though I consider myself a decent baker, I am certain that I wouldn't hold a candle next to Eve Manor.
Eve Manor is the next "up and coming" pastry chef. With her ability to create the most decadent desserts, she had earned a gig at the Annual Masked Black & Lace Ball.
While she wishes she could be among the masked participants on the dance floor, Eve remains focused on her career.
So far everyone has nothing but excellent things to say about the delectable edibles, but they haven't tasted anything yet. Eve has been keeping the best dessert for last. That one dessert that will push her over the edge and solidify her success. All she needs is a favorable review in Sizzzle; the famous food magazine, and her boss and friend Josh has made it possible by inviting its Editor-In-Chief, Christian Grier.
When the big moment arises, Eve is shocked to find that the Editor-In-Chief is none other than Kris. The man that she has not only been providing desserts for at his club, but has also been dreaming of for a very long time. Ever since that first time in Ganach when he took command of the situation and pleasured her with just his hand.
What Eve doesn't know is that he has been dreaming of her as well, and has a plan to finally seduce her and make her his. And tonight he plans to do just that.
Not the most erotic short story I have ever read, but it's not that bad. While it didn't make my toes curl, the story in and of itself did bring a smile to my face.

Book Review: Feyland: the Dark Realm
Today's review is on Feyland: The Dark Realm by Anthea Sharp
I would have to say that Feyland is the most original take on a story involving the Fey that I have come across so far. Set in the future where we have gravity cars and 4D simulator gaming, you are sucked right in from the very beginning.
Jennet Carter, aka "Rich Girl", is the very first person to play Feyland. A 4D simulator computer game designed by her father and his best friend. The game is so advanced that it seems real. In fact when Jennet finds herself at the last battle in the game against the Dark Queen of the faeries, she finds out just how real it actually is. In this battle she is fighting for her very essence, her life.
Now she needs to find the best gamer in town to help her get back "what was lost". She needs a hero to beat the Dark Queen or she will ultimately die. That hero is Tam Linn.
Tam's life is far from perfect little Jennet Carter's. Whereas she lives in the rich section of town, he lives in the poor. Where she lives in the protected, he lives in the dangerous. Where she lives in splendor, he lives in a shack taking care of his special needs little brother, most times without his mother around because of her condition.
When Tam realizes that it is not only Jennet that needs him, but that the human race is in danger he knows he has to keep fighting both in the game and in real life. But will his real life battles get in the way? And can he beat the Dark Queen before midnight on Halloween? Read the book to find out. You won't be disappointed!
Feyland was so entertaining that I had difficulty putting it down. I just had to find out what happened next!! I can hardly wait for Sharp's next installment.
